Carolina Improv Company classes are designed for adults and recommended for persons 18 or older. Classes for teens and children (for high school and middle school students) are coming in the future.
Our courses are designed for a variety of students – those who want to perform comedy as well as people who want to study improv for fun. To be successful in anything you do you need to be able to communicate and collaborate in the. Key improvisation techniques will help you to think on your feet, create new ideas effortlessly, actively listen to others, and work productively inside team environments. Workshops will help you learn to read any audience and will heighten your professional flexibility, making it easier for you to accommodate anyone in your life from clients to family and friends.
Learn to have fun, accept ideas, be positive, support others, pay attention, “almost succeed,” make eye contact, find your creativity, accept your own ideas and be more flexible. You'll be amazed at how the lessons apply to your life both on and off stage. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Be prepared to have fun, to learn, and to laugh!
IMPROV 101 – Fundamentals of Improv Comedy
IMPROV 101 explores the basics of comedy improvisation: team-building, trust, speed, status, active listening, and agreement. Students learn to be fearless and have fun on stage using the CIC approach to improv comedy. This class meets once a week for six weeks with an optional student showcase and two rehearsal classes. Class is limited to 14 students.
"Drop-In" to IMPROV - Improv Games and Practice Session
The best way to learn about improv is to experience and practice it. In this 90 minute workshop you'll learn about the basic principles of improv and have a chance to participate in some improv games. Great for CIC alums or anyone new to improv. Stand-Up Comedy Workshop
Always wanted to try it? Gain focus, get feedback, writing exercises and the Open Mic experience. This workshop is focused on getting you to your first Open Mic. This workshop will also give you a forum to try out material, create new material and overcome performance anxiety. Ending in a live showcase performance. Instructor Brooklin Green will also walk you through the process of researching national/regional stand-up auditions and submissions. Brooklin is a graduate of Chicago's Second City Conservatory and a regional finalist in Nick At Night's Funniest Mom 3.
Must be 18 or older to attend. Class culminates in showcase on May. 1 at 6:30pm. Registration and payment due by April 1.
Sketch Comedy Writing Workshop
How do some of the greatest sketches get created, from Saturday Night Live to Dave Chappell? Simple: Group effort and solo writing techniques. In this workshop we will brainstorm as a group to develop and perform sketch comedy for a live showcase. This workshop culminates with a live showcase performance. Instructor Brooklin Green is a graduate of Chicago's Second City Conservatory and a regional finalist in Nick At Night's Funniest Mom 3.

IMPROV 201 – Game of the Scene and Scene Patterns
IMPROV 201 focuses on the two-person scene, building on the fundamentals from 101. Students learn to identify the game of the scene, developing and heightening patterns of interaction. IMPROV 301 – Characters and Relationships
IMPROV 301 builds on the game of the scene from Improv 201. Learn to instantly create solid characters (voice, attitude, and physicality) and develop meaningful relationships in every scene you perform. Raise the stakes of the game by exploring the space between them. Pre-requisite: IMPROV 201
